"Falsas Esperanzas" (English: "False Hopes") is a song performed by American recording artist Christina Aguilera for her second studio album, Mi Reflejo (2000). It was written by Jorge Luis Piloto and released as a single through RCA Records on July 2, 2001. The uptempo Latin record was produced by Rudy Pérez and features instrumentation from a horn.

"Falsas Esperanzas" received mixed reviews from music critics with some naming it a stand-out track from the album while others were not impressed by it. The single peaked at fifteen on the Productores de Música de España and number seven on the Dutch Tipparade. Aguilera performed "Falsas Esperanzas" at the 2001 Grammy Awards and during her tours Justified and Stripped Tour and The Stripped Tour.

Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin has recorded material for ten studio albums and sang songs in Spanish, English, Italian and Portuguese; he has also recorded bilingual tracks. He began his career at age of 12, in 1984, as a lead singer of the band Menudo. Five years later he left the band and pursued a solo career, releasing his debut eponymous studio album in 1991. On the Spanish record, he collaborated with various songwriters and composers; "Fuego Contra Fuego", the lead single, was written by Carlos Goméz and Mariano Perez, while on "El Amor de Mi Vida" he worked with Eddie Sierra. On the record, he also sang a Spanish version of Larry Williams' 1957 single "Bony Moronie", titled "Popotitos".

In 1995, Martin teamed up with former band member, Robi Draco Rosa. Rosa was credited as Ian Blake in the official booklet of A Medio Vivir to work on his third studio album, A Medio Vivir, a record influenced by rock music and combined with Latin styles such as flamenco and cumbia. With Rosa's help several songs were penned for the record, including, "Fuego de Noche, Nieve de Día", "Volverás" and "María". The latter became a hit and was remixed as a bilingual English-Spanish version, released in 1998.

Desde un Principio: From the Beginning is a greatest hits album from American recording artist Marc Anthony. The album was released on November 9, 1999 by RMM Records & Video (RMM). It was a result of Anthony leaving RMM Records and signing on with Columbia Records. The recording contains twelve tracks from his years with RMM, a cover of the Rafael Hernández song "Preciosa", and two duets - one featuring Jennifer Lopez, the other featuring La India.

Allmusic's Jose Promis praised Desde un Principio: From the Beginning, calling the album an "ideal introduction" to the artist, although he complained about the songs on it being "truncated", particularly towards the end. The album received a Billboard Latin Music Award for Latin Greatest Hits Album of the Year. Desde un Principio: From the Beginning reached number one on both the Billboard Top Latin Albums and the Billboard Tropical Albums charts, and became the best-selling album of 2000 on both charts. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after shipments reached 500,000 copies.
